On Wings Of Devotion- ( The Codebreakers Book 2) Book Review

Here it is! The second book in the Codebreakers series. I have to say, I was so excited to read this book because I had learned that we would get a glimpse into the lives of other characters from Roseanna M. White's books. Books I have thoroughly enjoyed and reread many times. Roseanna has a way of writing that makes you fall in love with each character, for their strength, grit, whit, weaknesses. Turns out that On Wings Of Devotion has given me more characters to love to get to know!

This book really deserves every single one of those stars. Normally, I shy away from giving books a 100% because perfection's pretty hard to obtain. *The Number of Love* (asterisks stand for italics) got impressively close. I practically devoured this book like a black whole, so I hope this review gives it justice and doesn't bore you to death :)

Peasread: Praying For Girls

It seems maybe silly to have a book on how to pray for our kids because prayer is just talking to God, right? Of course it is. We walk with Him, talk with Him, tell Him about our day, cry out about injustices, and ask for healing, blessings, and His wisdom. We use prayer as a form of worship and as a step of faith, right? That's great I think. It's simple, but it also isn't. Praying For Girls by Teri Lynne Underwood helps us focus those prayers. 

There is no formula that will make our prayers heard more over others, it's not about that at all. God hears us and sees our hearts. This book is about effective and fervent prayers though, well thought out prayers, and prayers that focus on the needs of our kids. The book focuses on five areas of every girl's life- her identity, her heart, mind, relationships, and purpose. Everyone needs prayer in these areas don't they? There are prayers that scripture based in this book. Normally I don't like reading a prayer, but I like these as prompts, and what else would line up with God's will more than praying His very words for our girls? These small prayers can be a start of a longer prayer that is specific to the needs and hearts of our girls.

Peasread: A Layman Looks At The Lord's Prayer

This book is only 176 pages, but it has so much to think about and chew on. A Layman Looks At The Lord's Prayer takes the Lord's prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13 section by section. The writer (W. Phillip Keller) breaks down the significance of each point. This is a well known prayer, many people have it memorized. This book helps you dig deeper. 

What does "father" truly mean? What or where is heaven exactly? Lead us not into temptation? Why would be lead there? This book sheds light on so much. I highly recommend it. There's no way I can only read it once, I need to read it at least one more time.

Peasread: Peace In The Valley

The last in the Double S Ranch series by Ruth Logan Herne follows Trey Walker Stafford, the youngest of the Stafford boys. Trey was orphaned at a young age when is parents overdosed on drugs. He was adopted by his uncle Sam Stafford, patriarch of the family and owner of the Double S Ranch. Trey is a successful country music star returning home to help his dad, Sam, during a time of illness. 

All his life Trey has been a straight shooter, trying to prove to the world, himself, Sam, and his deceased parents that you can be in the spotlight and not succumb to drugs and alcohol. While Trey never struggled with addiction, his late wife did and she died from an overdose. Trey carries this guilt with him. He hates what drugs and alcohol do to people so much so that he has a hard time trusting anyone with a history of drug use. There is too much pain in his past from the effects of it. 

Peasread: Home On The Range

Another Double S Ranch book by Ruth Logan Herne. This one is called Home on the Range, in it we get to know more about Nick Stafford. Middle son to Sam Stafford. Nick is a single father trying to raise two little girls Cheyenne and Dakota. Along with the challenges of being a single father he has to deal with his past rejections, a father who was too busy on the ranch, and memories of a mother who walked out on him. Nick had always wanted to be a better man than his father in so many ways, but when his wife walks out on him he realizes that he is going down the same parenting path as Sam Stafford. Cheyenne is an 8 year old who is struggling to hold on to hope that her mother will return, she is defiant and angry at the world.

Peasread: Back In The Saddle

Back in the Saddle is a book I almost didn't want to read. It's the title, the cover. It's a beautiful cover. It's just cliche in some ways. Handsome cowboy with his horse. Back in the Saddle. Prodigal son. Just sounded so predictable. However we had a lovely cold rainy day recently and I snuggled in by the fire and finished this book, in two days. I really enjoyed it! A great romance with some mystery and action.

Peasread: Beauty Begins

Beauty Begins is a Christian/Biblical living book about true beauty. It is about God's definition of beauty, beauty as He created it/US to be. The book talks about how we have lost sight of what true beauty is and are looking at ourselves and those around us through the world's eyes. Instead of seeing that we are created in God's image and are perfect we start letting what society defines as beautiful creep into out thoughts. After a while we forget that true beauty is reflecting God's image, His love, grace, mercy, kindness.
We can never reach the world's standards on beauty, trends change, we're all made differently (fearfully and wonderfully), we can't all fit into one mold.  But God is unchanging. He is constant, and He has made us perfectly, for a perfect purpose. To love well, and reflect him. It's so important that we remember this and Beauty Begins is a helpful reminder that we need to "Make peace with our reflection" and focus on what's important and what is eternal.
