On Wings Of Devotion- ( The Codebreakers Book 2) Book Review

Here it is! The second book in the Codebreakers series. I have to say, I was so excited to read this book because I had learned that we would get a glimpse into the lives of other characters from Roseanna M. White's books. Books I have thoroughly enjoyed and reread many times. Roseanna has a way of writing that makes you fall in love with each character, for their strength, grit, whit, weaknesses. Turns out that On Wings Of Devotion has given me more characters to love to get to know!

We've met Philip Camden and Arabella before in The Number Of Love. Now we really get to know them and in turn, have a special place for them. There is redemption, grace, and romance so beautifully written in this book. Camden and Arabella are not perfect, but they are well developed and real. Even the antagonist in this book has a depth that when reading about her and her portion of the story you can feel for her and understand her in some ways. There is hurt, longing,  grief, and yes, love.
As you can read in the summary below this book is set in the World War 1 era. Roseanna writes historical fiction so well, it is a time that I didn't experience but could envision with her writing.  It is a great read.
Although this is the second book in the Codebreakers series, you can pick this up and still enjoy it as there is the perfect amount of backstory.

I will absolutely be picking this book up to read again!

GoodReads Summary

All of England thinks Major Phillip Camden a monster—a man who deliberately caused the deaths of his squadron. But as nurse Arabelle Denler watches the so-dubbed "Black Heart" every day, she sees something far different: a hurting man desperate for mercy. And when their paths twist together and he declares himself her new protector, she realizes she has her own role to play in his healing.

Phillip Camden would have preferred to die that day with his squadron rather than be recruited to the Admiralty's codebreaking division. The threats he receives daily are no great surprise and, in his opinion, well deserved. What comes as a shock is the reborn desire to live that Arabelle inspires in him.

But when an old acquaintance shows up and seems set on using him in a plot that has the codebreakers of Room 40 in a frenzy, new affections are put to the test.

About the Author

From the Roseanna M. White site.
Roseanna M. White is a bestselling, Christy Award nominated author who has long claimed that words are the air she breathes. When not writing fiction, she’s homeschooling her two kids, editing, designing book covers, and pretending her house will clean itself. Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary.
