Summerland Bath and Body- Discount!

Denise is the WAHM behind Summerland Bath and Body, she is offering 40% off* orders for Give Peas A Chance readers for the month of August at her Etsy store! See below for coupon code. She makes each and every one of her products in small batches with care. There is a variety of items on both her Etsy and Artfire stores, and she posts often on her facebook page about custom orders she's working on. With over 1000 positive feedback entries on Etsy and five star ratings on Artfire, you know Denise is consistent and knows what she's doing. I want to try all of her products. Beautiful handmade soaps, lotions, conditioners, shampoo, scrubs, body sprays, pet shampoo, and more. And her scent list is to die for! I'm a scent girl and just reading through that list and descriptions! WOW. You can check it out on her blog, on the right hand side, HERE.
I was lucky enough to test out a sulfate free shampoo and wash (Shea Butter Wash and Shampoo) and a leave in conditioner (Sunflower Conditioning Mist). I want to point out that I am picky about shampoo and conditioner. Maybe it's my hair but I don't like it brittle looking. I want it well conditioned but not greasy and with no build up. Not saying I have gorgeous locks that everyone wants and a to die for style, I just am particular about cleaning and conditioning. I have a lot of breakage so my hair looks frizzy sometimes.
Anyway, when Denise said she had a sulfate free shampoo, I was like ugh. I'll try it. Maybe put it on the girls and see how it goes. In the back of my head thinking, this never goes well. I've spent lots of money and so much doesn't work for me. Especially, "natural" stuff. Believe me I've wanted a sulfate free solution for my family and I, and I've looked.

The Shea Butter Wash and Shampoo and the Sunflower Conditioning Mist arrived around the last week of June. (So I've been using it over a month now!) Denise mentioned rinsing with organic apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. I had neither on hand. So I used white vinegar. Surprisingly the shampoo lathered well. I wasn't expecting that. My hair felt clean, and it didn't feel like it was stripped of natural oils, neither did my scalp. It was wonderful! Next, I poured the vinegar over my head. Oh. My. Gosh. The smell was yuck, so I quickly rinsed. I expected the vinegar to make my scalp and hair feel dry but again it didn't.
After the shower,  I went to run a brush through my hair- which is the real test for me. I like to be able to run a comb or brush through my hair after towel drying it and not feel like I'm pulling or tugging at my hair. Any other time I don't use a conditioner I can't comb through my hair without knots and tugging. I was able to brush my hair, then I sprayed on the conditioner and brushed again. I let my hair dry naturally. Which is the norm for me, no product and just let it dry. My hair felt lighter, had more volume and wasn't frizzy! It just looks better healthier, now. The vinegar smell goes away also. ;)
I decided to keep using the shampoo on my hair and my body. I use it on my girls also. I haven't tried it on their hair because of the vinegar rinse. Washing the girls hair around here (they take showers) is crazy. Whining and what not. Ugh. I'll wait until I pick up a bottle of lemon juice for that. For me, I found that I only need maybe 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar diluted in 2 cups of water. The smell is not intense that way and it rinses fine. Denise also said a little baking soda and water would neutralize the scent.
The Shea Butter Wash and Shampoo is awesome as a body wash. As stated before it lathers, not as much as soap does. And bubbles do NOT equal clean. But it's a nice lather. My skin feels clean but not tight/dry/flaky after.
So are you ready to try out some amazing handmade products? Check out Summerland Bath and Body. I would love if you could go to her facebook page and tell her I sent you too.
