It made me so angry, sad, and hopeful throughout. What can we expect when it comes to Greek Mythology right? Women generally never win. However reading Hannah Lynn's take on Hippolyte's life in Themyiscryra as Queen, then her life away from her people, and her family as she navigates life as a married woman. So many feelings.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">This is a retelling that is thrilling, heartbreaking, and written so well. Now she is a god in a warrior’s body, and never has she felt more powerless. Her lordess Xin Ren holds the Westlands, but her position is tenuous. In the north, the empress remains under Miasma’s thumb. In the south, the alliance with Cicada is in pieces.</div><br /><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Fate also seems to have a different winner in mind for the three kingdoms, but Zephyr has no intentions of respecting it. What she’ll do when she finds out the truth―that he worked for the South all along…</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Only the heavens know. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br /><div>REVIEW:</div><div>I was so glad I was able to this book right after Strike the Zither. The story picks up where it left off in the first book. Zephyr continues her quest to make Ren the victor and bring unity to the three kingdoms. Though she has new struggles and speed bumps, she knows that she wants to help Ren win this war. There are so many opticals and a huge twist at the end. This book is very much like the first read if you like Asian retellings, strategy, mind games, twists, and turns, this one is for you.</div><div><br /></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div><p style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.84px;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 15.4px;">Find more book reviews here under </span><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/search/label/peasreads" style="color: #3abb21; font-family: inherit; font-size: 15.4px; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">Peasreads.</a></p><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px;">Amazon reviews<a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/amzn1.account.AFXVEDC635I5OEFUJXCATF6T7YZQ?ie=UTF8&preview=true" style="color: #3abb21; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank"> Katereviews</a>.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px;"><div style="line-height: 21.56px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/68202329-katherine?shelf=peasreads" style="color: #3abb21; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">Goodreads reviews</a>.</span></div></div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-2isSaw8lg_qzS287hrAxk-obeFuUucb2YQRlONghTEY3ZymeOheMMx-J8ZO4dlVUe9TCO8qMpxglx36cIEzt7Z66ivz7ofK7XHOBqMoOToi4Hfdrc9pC_SVmr8ZtWuWv9vb5vsLunrgqgJRvNLuo0GI6Ce5aRj3REAuEnWkDvWZ97dMbG6iwyJyhfM/s320/Katherine%20peas.jpg" style="color: #3abb21; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="213" data-original-width="320" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-2isSaw8lg_qzS287hrAxk-obeFuUucb2YQRlONghTEY3ZymeOheMMx-J8ZO4dlVUe9TCO8qMpxglx36cIEzt7Z66ivz7ofK7XHOBqMoOToi4Hfdrc9pC_SVmr8ZtWuWv9vb5vsLunrgqgJRvNLuo0GI6Ce5aRj3REAuEnWkDvWZ97dMbG6iwyJyhfM/s1600/Katherine%20peas.jpg" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255); border: 1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1) 1px 1px 5px; padding: 5px; position: relative;" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div><div style="font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px; line-height: 21.56px;">I received this book from NetGalley for this review. This is a great book for those who like Asian retellings, strategy, war, rivals to lovers to enemies fans.</span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: freight-text-pro; font-size: 17.6px; letter-spacing: -0.176px; text-align: start; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: freight-text-pro; font-size: 17.6px; letter-spacing: -0.176px; text-align: start; white-space-collapse: preserve;"><br /></span></div><p></p><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px; text-align: center;"><p>#NetGalley </p><p style="font-size: 15.84px;"><span style="font-family: inherit; font-size: 15.4px;">Find more book reviews here under </span><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/search/label/peasreads" style="color: #3abb21; font-family: inherit; font-size: 15.4px; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">Peasreads.</a></p><div>Amazon reviews<a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/profile/amzn1.account.AFXVEDC635I5OEFUJXCATF6T7YZQ?ie=UTF8&preview=true" style="color: #3abb21; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank"> Katereviews</a>.</div><div><div style="line-height: 21.56px;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"><a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/list/68202329-katherine?shelf=peasreads" style="color: #3abb21; text-decoration-line: none;" target="_blank">Goodreads reviews</a>.</span></div></div></div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="background-color: white; clear: both; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-2isSaw8lg_qzS287hrAxk-obeFuUucb2YQRlONghTEY3ZymeOheMMx-J8ZO4dlVUe9TCO8qMpxglx36cIEzt7Z66ivz7ofK7XHOBqMoOToi4Hfdrc9pC_SVmr8ZtWuWv9vb5vsLunrgqgJRvNLuo0GI6Ce5aRj3REAuEnWkDvWZ97dMbG6iwyJyhfM/s320/Katherine%20peas.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="color: #3abb21; margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-decoration-line: none;"><img border="0" data-original-height="213" data-original-width="320" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiB-2isSaw8lg_qzS287hrAxk-obeFuUucb2YQRlONghTEY3ZymeOheMMx-J8ZO4dlVUe9TCO8qMpxglx36cIEzt7Z66ivz7ofK7XHOBqMoOToi4Hfdrc9pC_SVmr8ZtWuWv9vb5vsLunrgqgJRvNLuo0GI6Ce5aRj3REAuEnWkDvWZ97dMbG6iwyJyhfM/s1600/Katherine%20peas.jpg" style="background-attachment: initial; background-clip: initial; background-image: initial; background-origin: initial; background-position: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-size: initial; border: 1px solid rgb(0, 0, 0); box-shadow: rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1) 1px 1px 5px; padding: 5px; position: relative;" width="320" /></a></div><br style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px;" /><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 15.4px;"><div style="line-height: 21.56px;">I received this book from NetGalley for this review. I will be on the lookout for more of her work. I have recently started to read more thrillers and suspenseful books. I have enjoyed them. This one was a page turner from the get go. Meghan is the main character. She is an ICU nurse who is caring for a patient, Caitlin. Meghan is going through a divorce so she's trying to juggle her new life, parenting a teenager, helping a friend from high school that she was able to reconnect with recently, and on top of all of that- there is a serial killer on the loose. Meghan tries not to get involved in her patient's personal lives. However, there is just something about Caitlin and her family that makes Meghan question the truth about their relationship with Caitlin. <span></span></p><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/2024/03/peasread-shes-not-sorry.html#more">Read the rest of this post »</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">

It is a time of seeing out the previous year and ushering in the new one with luck, prosperity, and health. From the time I was born, this was the biggest holiday that we celebrated. This is the one mom hosted every year, the week was spent cleaning and shopping for all of the traditional treats and food. Our loved ones would join us for prayer and a feast. This book is a great read if you like all of these things. It is the first in the Drowned World series. Fathomfolk live in the depths of the Ocean that has become polluted by humans, and some of them live among the humans. Fleeing the polluted waters as refugees. They are seen as less and looked down upon. This story touches on classism, racism, and how different people deal with living in these conditions. Mira the half-siren tries to do things "by the book" though she is well aware that the humans are oppressing all Fathomfolk. Nami the dragon is a little hot-headed, she wants change, and she knows the source of her people's pain. She joins an extremist group. </div><div style="text-align: center;">Both will have to decide if change is worth the price they each will pay. Stakes are high, lives are lost. It has magic, dragons, and fae. Darcy is a mage, and Elizabeth has magic of her own, which they call talents. Because this is a variation, the author does not take the time to develop the characters. I guess it is expected that the reader should already know the characters and their mannerisms and characteristics, There isn't much time given to explain the talents and the world the characters were in. I felt like I was just dropped into the middle of the story. If I were not a fan of Austen's I am unsure I would have enjoyed or connected with these characters well. It is an entertaining read and it's a short one. It does end on a cliffhanger. I like it enough that I want to read the sequel and fans of Austen and Fantasy would like this also. It is a clean read.<span></span></div><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/2024/02/peasreads-spellbound-at-pemberley.html#more">Read the rest of this post »</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">

Historical fiction/fantasy. Retelling or reimagining of folktales, myths, or historical figures and their lives. Neferura was the daughter of a female Pharaoh, this is a short description from Wikipedia:</p><p style="text-align: center;"></p><blockquote><i>Neferure or Neferura was an Egyptian princess of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt. She was the daughter of two pharaohs, Hatshepsut and Thutmose II. She served in high offices in the government and the religious administration of Ancient Egypt</i>. Wikipedia</blockquote><p></p><p style="text-align: center;">The book follows the tradition that she was the daughter of two Pharaohs and married her half-brother Thutmose. There is little known about her, even her date of death is not known. Malayna Evans weaves a story around known details and adds imaginative storytelling. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Neferura is the daughter of the great Pharaoh who happens to be female. Both of their positions are precarious due not only to their gender but also because Neferura has a half-brother. Thutmose shares the same father as Neferura. The previous Pharoah. Thutmose seeks to regain what he believes is rightfully his. </p><p style="text-align: center;">Both the Pharoah and Thutmose seek power above all else. They will do anything to get it. Neferua a high priestess of Ketmet loves her people and knows where her duty lies. For the people and land that she loves. Neferua is smart, compassionate, and kind. Is she strong enough to stand up and serve the people when she's forced to marry Thutmose and produce a male heir? Knowing that once she does produce an heir, her life will end. She's determined to secure her people's safety, even if that means sacrificing her own life.<span></span></p><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/2024/01/peasreads-neferura.html#more">Read the rest of this post »</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">

It's a fast read but with some great twists and an unexpected conclusion! It's a little Criminal Minds and a little Law and Order written from multiple points of view. This is a short review because I don't want to give anything away. I will list trigger warnings below, before the description that may contain spoilers. The ending isn't all roses and butterflies. It is unexpected. All I can say is that this is a psychological thriller that I would recommend if this is your genre! </div><div><br /></div><div>Trigger warnings:</div><div>Murder</div><div>Incest- not graphic, but spoken of</div><div>Grooming- obviously</div><div>Kidnapping</div><h4> <span style="text-align: left;">Description</span></h4><p></p><div style="text-align: center;">The phone starts vibrating in my hand. Magic, dragons, strong female that provides for her family. A Dragon King that is in search of a wife that has strong enough to carry his heir (there is an underlying reason- it's actually a good one). Arwen has lived her whole life in a poor town, she hunts to provide for her family. She has no desire to leave her family especially to be used for her womb. Good thing she has no magic in her, she is human through and through. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">When the Dragon King's convoy comes into her town Arwen's mother tells her to run. She doesn't understand why until her mom reveals a secret that changes her whole life. The magic sniffers tell her that she must go to the capital city where the castle is where everyone's magic level will be tested to determine who will be the King's new wife.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Meanwhile, there is a threat at the border of the kingdom that threatens their way of life.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">WHEW.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">A lot is going on in this book. It's only 288 pages, it's a one-sitting book that has so much potential. I hoped that the author would take her time to develop the characters and storyline deeply. I felt like this was very surface-level. It was rushed. The love was rushed. The training to fight in battle was rushed. It would be more believable if time was taken to develop these storylines. There were some potholes in the story. Sometimes the language didn't match the proposed period. Who says "dude" right?</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Despite these issues, I still enjoyed the book. I just wanted more depth. I can't wait to read the remaining books. I hope that they will be different but the story and the characters are worth the investment to read the next one. Author don't fail me now.</div><span></span><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/2023/12/peasreads-last-dragon-king-by-leia-stone.html#more">Read the rest of this post »</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">

The final book in the duology of The Wraith. We're back in the midst of both the Fair Lands and Regency London. The Wraith, Theo has saved the Fair Lands. I almost think these two books could have just been one since it's all Theo mostly. I was hoping we could be done with Theo and Lily's story as sweet as it was. I hoped Shelby could shine in his very own adventure where Theo was a supporting character. To me, Theo is again the main character. </p><p style="text-align: center;">I wanted more of Shelby, more of Miss Firethorn. As loyal as Shelby is to Theo, it's wonderful and amazing really. I also wanted HIM to just be the one. A great conclusion to the adventures of the Wraith. The Fair Lands will be safe, but now it's a matter of winning the trust of the Fair people so that there can be peace among them.<span></span></p><a href="http://pleasegivepeasachance.blogspot.com/2023/11/peasreads-shield-and-thorn-wraith.html#more">Read the rest of this post »</a><div class="blogger-post-footer"><script src="http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" type="text/javascript">
