Planetbox Shuttle- Review

Oh Planetbox, how I love thee, let me count the ways.
1. Eco friendly
2. Easy to pack
3. DISHWASHER SAFE
4. Foods don't touch
5. Container and lid are attached. Read- no lost lids
4. Bag is hand washable
5. Stainless steel
6. Five year warranty
7. These boxes are very easy to open. Just lift the little latch.

Really though I'm loving our Planetbox  items and have been using them constantly. I wrote my first review of the Planetbox Rover here on Give Peas A Chance in 2011. We now have 3 Rovers. I added them this year and it's made my lunch packing so much faster. Same boxes, same compartments, same foods. Easy Peasy.
A few weeks ago the nice people at Planetbox contacted me saying they had an exciting new product debuting, and asked if I would take it for a "test drive" if you will. I jumped at the chance. I wasn't sure at all what the product would be. After all, the Rover has been awesome for us, and the bigger Launch seemed to complete the little Planetbox family I thought. Then the Shuttle arrived at our doorstep. Squee! Such a great size. It's perfect for snacks for Pixie and I. I have also been using it for my lunches. As you can see from the pictures below the Shuttle is smaller but deeper than the Rover. I don't have a Launch to compare too, I would love to add at least one to our rotation of boxes for packing though.
Here are the specs on the Shuttle-
Weight13 ozs for Standard, 1 lb for Complete
Dimensions7.75 × 5.2 × 2.0 in for Standard, 8.75 x 6.25 x 2.5 for Complete
Volume2 cups main compartment, 1 cup side compartment
Materials
Stainless steel, synthetic rubber, polyester and recycled polyester for carry bags
Care
Stainless products dishwasher safe, wipe clean magnets, hand wash carry bags
The Shuttle on the left comes with a "Tall Dipper" for dressings, sauces, etc. The bag for the Shuttle doesn't zip open like the bag for the Rover. It is still hand washable. I do hope that a bag that zips around fully like the Rover's bag will be offered at one point. I just think it's easier to be able to check the bag and see if it just needs a quick wipe down or an actual washing if it opens flat.
Rover on the left and Shuttle on the right.
Height comparison. Rover on the left and Shuttle on the right.
Shuttle on top of the Rover.
The Shuttle is deeper than the Rover, but as you can see it doesn't take up more room in it's carry case.
All in all I really like the Shuttle. For me personally it holds the perfect amount of food for a meal. I have packed it with snacks for Pixie and I to nibble on throughout the day. She's able to just open it up by herself. Sometimes I'll pack her lunches and snacks and leave them in the refrigerator for her even if we're not going out.

  1. Those make it look so easy to pack lunches! I've been having to pack lunches the past two weeks for my boys for camp and I wish I had something like that! I'll have to look into buying one or two!
